Philadelphia 76ers Rout Indiana Pacers For First Win; Doug Collins Leaves Game

Brand New

It’s official; the Philadelphia 76ers have recorded their first season victory at the expense of the Indiana Pacers who were off to their best start in three seasons before the tip-off.

Elton Brand did what people have been expecting of him for some time now; he put up impressive numbers. Brand finished the night with 25 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes. The Duke graduate ran the floor and kept Indiana on their heels the entire night as the Sixers jumped out to a 26-point lead at the half.

Brand and the 76ers are coming off back-to-back games and not showing any signs of fatigue. Brand was quoted as saying “ I’m ready to play. I feel good. Back-to-backs don’t bother me.”

Indiana didn’t help themselves shooting just 13-45 in the first two quarters.

Coach Doug Collins stayed in the locker room at the half due to vertigo symptoms from a slip and fall in a coffee shop in the off-season. Yes, as hard as it is to believe he slipped on a frappuccino on Memorial Day and hasn’t been the same since. He’s experiencing post-concussion syndrome symptoms and took the second half to regroup.

76ers rookie Evan Turner was the first guy off the bench for the Sixers. He finished the night with 12 points and six rebounds.

Jrue Holiday had a strong showing and Andre Iguodala put up some nice numbers despite not shooting well.
This was clearly the smallest home crowd this season. As Philly catches fire and begin to gel as a unit, look for bodies to start filling the seats.

Sixers fans should be excited. A young talented squad finally showed us what they’re made of. If they continue at this pace, it should be a very exciting season.
